 SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN

Schleswig-Holstein the Federal State between 2 seas

Sun, wind and waves - Schleswig-Holstein is worth a journey at any time of the year. The land between the seas, lying north of the Elbe and south of Scandinavia, brings together open air, nature, culture and all sorts of activities. It is a land of seafarers and watersports. Sea or lakes are never far away...
The five regions - North Sea, Baltic Sea, Duchy of Lauenburg, Inland, Holsteinische Schweiz and the towns and cities – are all typical of Schleswig-Holstein, but at the same time each of them has its own quite individual character.

Low and high tide, green dykes and unparalleled sand dunes at the North Sea, mile long beaches at the Baltic. Golden-yellow fields of rape, still lakes, castles and mansions in the Holsteinische Schweiz, forests, fens, and the Elbe-Lübeck Canal in the Duchy of Lauenburg.

Inland, it's worth following in the footsteps of the Vikings, going on a historic tour along old trading routes, and enjoying the diverse landscapes of the natural parks. Large and small towns and cities with historic past and colourful hustle and bustle are spread throughout the region: Flensburg, Eckernförde, historic Lübeck and the Land capital Kiel are strung along the Baltic coast like pearls; the writer Theodor Storm's town of Husum and the little Dutch town of Friedrichstadt know the rough storms of the North Sea.

Centrally located Neumünster or the town of Rendsburg on the Kiel Canal are towns lying along the way inland. Have yourself a quiet shop, rummage around, enjoy culture and good food - the towns and cities in Schleswig-Holstein offer plenty of this with trendy boutiques, gastronomic delights and galleries. In Schleswig-Holstein everyone will find what they are looking for.
