Europe's highest and biggest steel roller coaster, the Silver Star, hurtles along at around 130 km/h. Europa-Park in Rust, Germany's largest theme park (70 hectares), offers a choice of over 100 rides and lets you travel from the North Cape to Andalusia in just one day. If you want more time to take in the Greek temples, the Pirates in Batavia ride and the breathtaking gladiator stunt show, you can stay at one of the fabulous themed hotels at the park. A brand new attraction for 2005 is the Atlantica SuperSplash water coaster, which marks the start of the park's twelfth "country area", Portugal.
If you've always wanted to test your off-road skills, VW's Autostadt complex is for you. Tackle steps and water with an expert instructor and learn how to handle a car in critical situations with a safety trainer. Young learners can get behind the wheel too - in a kiddies' electric car - and take a children's "driving test". And you don't need to be a Lamborghini fan to appreciate a guided tour of the Autostadt complex.
With its daring feats and dramatic explosions, the stunt show (based on hit film MAD MAX III) has the audience holding its breath. Babelsberg Film Park in Potsdam is a film and TV mecca with a huge range of attractions. There is Metropolis, a 4D action cinema, whose moving seats and wind and smell effects create the perfect illusion. Younger visitors enjoy meeting Janosch's little tiger at Dream Land. Of course, you can also experience a TV programme or cinema film in the making.
Save the Earth! That's the task facing visitors to Bavaria Filmstadt near Munich when they appear in costume on sets like those of the German comedy hit "(T)Raumschiff Surprise-Periode 1" – and are filmed from no fewer than four camera angles. The tricks of the film trade are also revealed on the sets of many popular TV shows and famous film classics. The hair-raising stunt show has professional stuntmen falling expertly off roofs. The 4D cinema whisks audiences through the latest computer-animated thrillers.
There are shrieks of delight as the wildwater ride plunges down the pyramid in the Valley of the Pharaohs. For even more thrills, take a ride on the Dragon Ride roller coaster or the giant swinging ship at Explorers' Coast. Belantis Theme Park Leipzig has other attractions as well as rides. Visitors can admire magnificent Belantis Castle, enjoy the spectacular show at the Pharaoneum or take a "Journey with Odysseus across the Mediterranean".
Man's dream of flying comes true! The world's one and only Wild Eagle sky glider launches you into the air at 70 km/h and lets you "fly" over the theme park. Fort Fun - just two hours' drive east of Düsseldorf - has many more attractions to get your adrenalin pumping. You can hurtle down the hillside on the Trapper Slider or enjoy getting splashed on the wildwater ride. There are also plenty of thrills on offer - a water bob ride and roller bob ride, for example - at our sister park Panorama Park Sauerland.
You want to take to the skies? You can, on the Torre del Mar, the world's highest flying carousel, which gives you a whole new perspective on Lübeck Bay. You'll need a head for heights as you do the horizontal loop 70 metres above the ground at a speed of around 70 km/h. And that's only one of more than 35 rides at Hansapark near Lübeck. Visitors can also enjoy fantastic entertainment - the sea lion show, for example, and performances at north Germany's biggest and most successful variety theatre.
Intoxicating and totally exhilarating, plummeting from the biggest gyro-drop tower in the world is almost like doing a parachute jump. Scream is a great name for this attraction - thrill seekers plunge in free fall at 100 km/h from 71 metres up. Heide-Park Soltau near Hamburg is always a great day out for all age groups. It has the steepest wooden roller coaster in the world, a dolphinarium and a pirates' world action comedy show.
Speed lovers voted Expedition GeForce the best roller coaster in the world. Not without reason - its cars plummet at 120 km/h, almost in free fall. Other rides at Holiday Park in the Palatinate with the power to thrill include the Devil's Barrels rapids water ride and the Free Fall Tower. But there's also plenty of opportunity to get your breath back because all the attractions, the shows and the children's world are in a delightful floral park and woodland setting.
Legoland® Deutschland: an experience for all the family
Neuschwanstein Castle, the Frankfurt skyline and Hamburg harbour - within an hour and a half's drive of Munich and Stuttgart, you can see these sights recreated in minute detail using Lego®. Mini Land's newest attraction is Allianz Arena, Munich's state-of-the-art football stadium, complete with a blaze of camera flashes, changing rooms and a press area. In Lego® City children can put the BionicleTM Power Builder - an action ride programmed by visitors themselves - to the test.
The new "River Quest" attraction at Phantasialand Brühl near Cologne is an amazing rafting experience - a whirlwind tour of waterfalls and rapids in circular boats. Fans of adventure will love the wooden roller coaster "Colorado Adventure" ride, the "Galaxy" ride to the stars and discovering mysterious "Wuze Town". While younger visitors splash around in "Octowuzy", older ones can enjoy the daring antics of the Wuze clan on the Spinning Coasters "Winja´s Fear & Force".
At Playmobil Fun Park children can slip into the roles of their favourite toy characters - at the fabulous castle, the pirate ship (a real challenge to climb) and the mysterious jungle ruins. This vast adventure playground near Nuremberg is all about active play and experiences. There is a new Tree House activity world where children can go on an exciting discovery tour to the enchanted fairy waterfall and the research station. The golf course is fun for children and grown-ups alike.
In Captain Blue Bear's Wonderland even little children can steer their rubber boat across the water and explore secret streams in a canoe. And Ravensburger Spieleland amusement park near Lake Constance has so much more to discover. Kids can dig with real diggers at the Fix & Foxi digger pit or go on a treasure hunt in Lupo's gold mine. The larger-than-life classic games are a real highlight. Where else can you play Memory from a helicopter or ride on giant snails?
A lion, look! And rhinos. At Serengeti Park you can get close to giraffes, zebras and elephants on a thrilling ten kilometre safari either in your own car or on the Serengeti bus. Next take a thrilling jungle safari. Monkey Land, the only attraction of its kind in Germany, has 200 monkeys tumbling about in outdoor enclosures that are partly walk-through. You don't need to go to Africa to see all this - this park of over 200 hectares with its 1,000 free-roaming exotic animals is between Bremen and Hanover.
Who's coming to slide paradise or on the dragon roller coaster? Taunus Wonderland has lots of kids' attractions and is just half an hour's drive from Frankfurt. Time flies when you're climbing the padded tower, enjoying the fairytale forest or exploring the haunted castle. For animal lovers there is a petting zoo and a prehistoric forest with dinosaur show. Action-hungry youngsters can look forward to a whirlwind wildwater ski ride and the Taunus Lightning roller coaster.
Who's going to win the soapbox race? Drivers can steer their own vehicle and race to the finish at speeds of up to 14 km/h. Besides this unique attraction, Tripsdrill Amusement Park just outside Stuttgart has over 100 other unusual attractions for visitors of all ages. It's not every day you race down a raging torrent in a washtub. At the nearby animal park, visitors can watch when it's feeding time for the wolves, lynx and bears.
A giant squid swims past the glass. Diving depth: 2,000 metres. This simulated diving trip is awesome, even for visitors who aren't too keen on water. And that's just for starters. At the Universum® Science Center Bremen you're positively encouraged to get stuck in and try things out for yourself. If you like adventure, you'll enjoy the space journey exploring black holes and be thrilled when the sofa and walls start to shake like in a real earthquake. You can also find out what makes each person unique and exactly what your nose is sensitive to.
Stand by... action! At Movie Park Germany don't be surprised if you suddenly find yourself on a film set following the director's instructions or up close to spectacular stunts. Here in Bottrop in the heart of the Ruhr region, everything revolves around film. You can explore the mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle ride and survive a chase in the flight simulator. For the bold, there are also some fabulous roller coasters.
